Your Donations Change Lives
When you donate clothes, household goods, toys or electronics to Goodwill, it’s like donating money to a favorite charity. Each year Goodwill receives donations from hundreds of thousands of generous donors. The items donated go through a process to ensure that we maximize their value – squeezing every bit of revenue from them to fund our mission – helping people find jobs!
First, items are sorted to determine if they are sellable at our stores. Only items that are in good to perfect condition make it to our sales floor where they are sold to shoppers looking for quality items at affordable prices. When items just don’t sell, they are put into our salvage stream where they are sold to textile dealers and other recyclers. The same rule goes for those donations that do not meet our quality standards, they too, end up in our salvage stream.
Through this process of reselling goods and recycling, Goodwill gives your donations a “second life” and keeps them out of landfills. The revenue earned from the sale of donations helps to fund great programs for families in your community.
Goodwill is 100% nonprofit. Nearly 93% of the money raised by selling your donation is invested in your community through programs that help people overcome barriers to independence and lead full, rich lives. Goodwill is a registered 501(c)(3) organization. All contributions to Goodwill are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
