Goodwill of Western & Northern Connecticut Donates 1,000 Supply-Filled Backpacks to Students Attending Hartford Public Schools

Hartford, Conn. (August 21, 2024) – On August 20th, representatives from Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut (GWNC) joined their partners from The Village, at Dunkin’ Park, to send Hartford Public Schools’ students back to school with supply-filled backpacks.

“We want to help set students up for success in the classroom similar to the way we set adults up to succeed in the workforce,” Heather Marquis, Co-Interim CEO, Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut, said. “Empowering people to achieve better outcomes is a core part of the work that Goodwill does, and we are proud to extend that commitment to support students in Hartford this school year.”

Goodwill’s Backpack Giveback started in 2023 as a way to support lifelong learning. This year’s Giveback included a donation of 1,000 supply-filled backpacks to The Village, which worked alongside Goodwill to distribute the items to students who will be attending Hartford Public Schools this year. Attendees of the event were also given informational materials about Goodwill Career Centers, which offer virtual and in-person services – ranging from digital skills training to resume writing assistance – to residents in Hartford, and beyond, at no cost.
